....and it makes me wonder.....

Maybe it's the Led Zepplin kick I've been on today, but I've been in a contemplative mood.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like:

*if academic theologians would focus more on translating their research into the pew than into a journal?

*if pastors focused more on learning and applying their theologies with the seriousness that physicians practice medicine?

*if pastor and serious academic scholar were not so often mutually exclusive?

*if we in both realms recognised the importance, brilliance, and creativity of our students and parishioners and quit trying to tailor things to the "pew punters" or "pew potatoes?"

*if we were less obsessed with sex and more concerned with love?

*if we were able to articulate our doctrine instead of being ashamed of it?

*if we actually voted with our hearts and minds and not simply our wallets?

*if we realised our discomfort with "difference" was so often our discomfort with ourselves?

*if we realised that prayer was less about actions and more about a lack of actions?

*if we were as accepting of wisdom from different parts of the world as we are of food?

and finally

*if we actually found out how much wood a woodchuck could chuck, would all woodchucks then be required to chuck wood? Would the be a quota for chucked woodchuck wood? :)
